Press Release, March 02, 2010

Following our Annual General Meeting of Northumberland Trail Riders MC, we are pleased to announce new venues and new projects for 2010.  The Northumberland Spring Trail Ride has long been the cornerstone of our club and traditionally attracts upwards of 200 riders. Having lost the use of most of the trail in the Northumberland County Forest attempting to host a trail ride on eight kilometres of trail is akin to holding a golf tournament on a ‘one-hole-course’, therefore a new venue was needed, ideally in an area more appreciative of motor sport tourism.

A big ‘Thank you’ to Ontario Dual Sport Club who have handed over the Mazinaw Trail Ride. This event has been successfully held for three years in an area north of Seven Highway, and is the brainchild of Brian Helliwell and Al Buck. ODSC found holding a trail ride and a dual sport event on the same weekend proved to be a tremendous amount of work for the small number of workers who actually took part, hence the decision to share the weekend. ODSC, Brian Helliwell and Al Buck will continue to hold a DS ride on the Sunday and their ideas and knowledge of the area will be welcomed by NTR.

The ‘women-only’ charity event previously hosted by Northumberland Trail Riders from which has contributed in access of $32000.00 to the Northumberland Hills Chemo Cancer Clinic in the proceeding four years will also be relocated for 2010. Meg’s Ride will now be held as part of the MCC International Women Riders Council at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, August 15, 2010.

The Northumberland Trail Riders are also a part of the newly formed Offroad Ontario, an organization not unlike the OFTR. Northumberland Trail Riders will for the first time host a cross country race which will be a part of the Ontario Championship Series. This event will happen on Sunday, May 23.  Competition events may be a new undertaking for the club as a whole but competition is not a new phenomena for a majority of the members.

Information for the trail rides will soon appear on: www.oftr.ca

Information for the XC race will appear on: www.offroadontario.ca

Less Sound = More Ground
We had the OFTR performing sound tests at NTR rides, and there have been only a handful of bikes that did not meet the 96 decibel limit.  Those bikes were repaired and allowed to carry on!  More and more we find sound restrictions are being enforced and more people are being made aware that less sound = more ground.  So keep those mufflers packed and help keep our riding areas available to all of us!
